Please be aware that Nkosi does not allow you to send many defers and failures and we will block your ability to send any emails, even to legitimate email accounts. If you continue sending emails, we may suspend your email account or your entire domain name, until you have fixed your problems and agreed again to not do this. In the case where we have to take administrative action, there is a charge of R485 per event.

In your Nkosi or PLESK or cpanel control panel : Select EMAIL and LOGS, set the date and time for the past 24 hours and read the result or log messages to understand where your problems start and what the reasons are for your defers and failures.

Each email you send is a separate letter, a defer means that your email server will continue trying to deliver your email, every few hours, over the next few days. A failure means your email server has permanently failed to deliver your email. If you have sent 1000 emails that was not delivered you will receive 1000 failure messages. If you sent one email that was not delivered you will receive one failure, even though your email server, over many days, tried to deliver your single email over a hundred of times. If you have sent 1000 emails that were not delivered you have generated hundreds of thousands of defers before receiving 1000 permanent failure messages.

Defers and failures in terms of email means that you are sending emails to other email accounts which either:

  • Do not exist  noreply@example.com (You can take action yourself  : CHANGE / CHECK / DO NOT DO THIS – CHECK IF YOU ARE INFECTED WITH MALWARE?)

  • Have blocked your domain name (You can take action yourself : Contact the recipient and ask them if they will accept your emails)

  • Is required by their service provider to grey list or white list your domain name, Nkosi DOES NOT USE OR HAVE ANY WHITE LISTING – but other providers do. (You can take action yourself : Contact the recipient and ask them to grey list or white list your domain name)

  • Service provider is refusing to accept email to the email account for various reasons, for example no more storage space, broken server or broken systems, domain name no longer working and many many other reasons (You can take action yourself : Get a different or working email address and use that)

  • The service provider does not want to receive email from your domain name or refuses to receive emails from your domain name until they have checked with their client (You can take action yourself : Contact the recipient and ask them to inform their service provider to allow your domain name)

  • Some service providers have low quality service and sometimes when they receive more than one or two emails from your domain name they automagically temporarily block your domain name. With such LOW QUALITY services it is difficult to send email to such a recipient. You can take action by asking the recipient if they have a different working email account at a different service provider. – Action : Get a different email address and use that
